Law Week Colorado Profiles Jeff Sherman’s Military Service
In a special feature on Colorado lawyers who serve as JAG officers, Law Week Colorado highlighted corporate partner Jeff Sherman’s experience serving as an officer in the JAG Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve and as staff judge advocate of the Wyoming Army National Guard. The legal publication talked to attorneys from several branches of the military about their day-to-day work and how the JAG life translates to private practice.
In the feature article, Sherman discussed his background and what led him to a career in the military, and shared details on the path to his success from starting out as a JAG officer to now serving as staff judge advocate.
Sherman told the publication that his armed forces experience has made him a better lawyer. He said JAG work has helped him to be more responsive to clients.
“I actually think that being a JAG officer makes me a better corporate lawyer and vice versa,” Sherman noted. “Even though I don’t do corporate transactions in the Army, the core skills and the core priorities remain the same — clients are at the heart of what we do and we need to have relentless client focus.”
Sherman also shared how his Army experience has shaped the way he collaborates with his colleagues at Faegre Drinker, highlighting how he uses process of “after action review,” a management technique he learned in the military, following the completion of a major project. He added that “[after action review is] a great way to improve as an organization… I have found that to be a really useful technique to build collaboration.”
