Faegre Drinker announced that Marilee J. Springer has joined the Indianapolis office as a partner in the Corporate Group. Springer comes to the firm from Ice Miller LLP.
She represents tax-exempt organizations, social impact entities, donors and quasi-governmental entities, and frequently serves as outside general counsel, focused on corporate, structuring, governance and tax issues. Serving for-profit and philanthropic clients, Springer also often advises clients on corporate social responsibility programs, social impact investments, sophisticated grants and mission-related investments.
“Marilee is a terrific addition to our national nonprofit organizations team,” Co-Chairs Thomas C. Froehle, Jr. and Andrew C. Kassner said in a joint statement. “A talented lawyer with sophisticated experience guiding nonprofit organizations, she has demonstrated leadership both in her legal work and at the highest level of Indiana state government.”
In addition to her legal background, Springer served in the public sector as deputy chief of staff and senior policy director for former Indiana Governor Mike Pence (now vice president of the United States).
While serving former Governor Pence, she was responsible for the oversight and management of executive agencies, the cabinet, boards and commissions; management of the personnel process for selection of agency heads and the performance evaluation process; and input regarding policy, legislative and communication strategies for the governor, and executive agencies.
“Marilee has a broad and excellent reputation, adding senior-level expertise to our nonprofit organizations practice,” James M. Fischer and Keith P. Radtke, co-leaders of Faegre Drinker’s Corporate Group, said in a joint statement. “Building on her high-profile public sector tenure, Marilee provides sophisticated legal advice together with input on public policy, public advocacy and stakeholder communications. She adds immediate value for our clients and we are excited to welcome her to Faegre Drinker.”
Springer earned her bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from Purdue University, and her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
