Drinker Biddle Presents a Tertulia with Marco A. Davis

Drinker Biddle attorneys Nicolas Guzman, Antonio Pozos and Mary Devlin Capizzi in conjunction with Antonio Tijerino of the National Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Alejandra Castillo of the YWCA, and Estuardo Rodriguez of the Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, hosted a June 17 reception welcoming Marco Davis as the new President and CEO of (Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) (CHCI). Set in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, this event was the second installment in the Firm’s recent “tertulia” series, a Spanish term for an informal meeting of people to talk about current affairs. The invitation-only luncheon encouraged conversation about issues impacting the Latino community.

Maria Lewis, Drinker Biddle’s Chief Diversity Officer, and Ilisa Halpern Paul, President of Drinker Biddle’s District Policy Group, also took part in the event.

A broad range of bipartisan Latino leaders, including representatives of current and past government administrations, continued the lively discussion of pressing issues, including the 2020 U.S. census and a historic problem of underreporting of Latino households. Additional topics discussed included the impact of climate change and natural disasters on underserved communities, and the need to improve the Latino presence in media.

“The tertulia series has provided a venue for the Latino community to celebrate its achievements, welcoming leaders to their new important roles, and has allowed for an informal gathering space to share the diverse perspectives with the common goal of using our positions and experience toward Latino community empowerment.” said Guzman. “The Latino community, nationally and locally, needs spaces to lift each other, discuss issues, and support each other as we push our respective missions forward,” said Tijerino, President and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. “Drinker Biddle has provided that space for us.”
