Overcoming Systemic Bias: Lessons From County Prosecutors Identifying and Implementing Solutions to Eliminate Bias in the Criminal Justice System
2023 MSBA Conference on the Future of the Federal Criminal Justice System
Overview
Erica MacDonald is speaking on “Overcoming Systemic Bias: Lessons From County Prosecutors Identifying and Implementing Solutions to Eliminate Bias in the Criminal Justice System” at the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Conference on the Future of the Federal Criminal Justice System.
Erica — the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota — is joining the panel with John Choi, County Attorney of Ramsey County, Minnesota; Dan Satterberg, former Prosecuting Attorney of King County, Washington; and Sherry Boston, District Attorney of DeKalb County, Georgia. Dr. Tanya Gladney, Associate Professor of Justice and Society Studies at the University of St. Thomas is moderating.
In an effort to eliminate bias and reduce disparities, these prosecutors have worked to understand bias, evaluate solutions and measure progress. Can we advance public safety without reverting to the mistakes of the past? What can we learn from their work and what would it take to scale those lessons to have impact in other jurisdictions, including at the federal level?
