Financial Times Looks to Kelly Tautges for Insight on the Importance of Pro Bono Work During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Financial Times turned to Faegre Drinker pro bono counsel and director Kelly Tautges, for insight on the importance of pro bono work by law firms, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the article titled “Pro bono work helps law firms close justice gap,” Financial Times detailed how high-end practices are making up for shortcomings in state-funded legal aid by taking on pro bono work. Many private-sector attorneys have felt the need to improve access to justice for a variety of causes and often go beyond annual requirements or recommendations for delivering pro bono legal services.

Tautges described how Faegre Drinker attorneys have helped address problems related to COVID-19, including a push for better anticoronavirus protocols in prisons.

“From leadership to new associates, lawyers find causes for which to devote their time,” said Tautges. “It becomes a real point of pride to be responsive to the community’s needs.”
