Enhancing Medical Device Cybersecurity
Product liability and mass torts attorneys Mary Hershewe and Michael Zogby coauthored an article for NJBIZ that addresses the rise of global data breaches in the health care and life sciences industries.
Hershewe and Zogby provide data from several sources that list cybercrime as a leading cause of data breaches and outline reasons why the health care and life sciences industries are primary targets – 1) health care information is particularly valuable to hackers, 2) the industry is a more lucrative target for ransomware attacks and 3) the significance of patient data leaves health care entities in a more urgent position and more likely than other industries to pay ransom fees to reobtain stolen data.
The article also touches on 2022 guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including the expansion of information transparency requirements and the Total Product Lifecycle approach.
