DEA Updates: Three New Rules Every Pharmacist Should Know

In the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s (NABP) Innovations Magazine, health care counsel Jonathan Keller, PharmD and associate Winnie McBride shared three new rules every pharmacist should know. 

The co-authors shared that, “In July and August of 2023, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued three final rules regarding the regulation of controlled substances (CS) that have direct impacts on registrants.” Keller and McBride share the rules within the article, including 1) reporting theft or significant loss of CS, 2) transfer of Schedule II-V EPCS between pharmacies for initial filling and 3) partial filling of prescriptions for Schedule II CS.
