Ilse Peterson and Fatou Sarr Highlight COVID-19 Impacts on Neuromuscular Disease Community and Views Toward Telemedicine

Faegre Drinker Consulting research and strategy director Ilse Peterson and manager Fatou Sarr partnered with Cure SMA’s Mary Curry, Lisa Belter, Sarah Whitmire, Mary Schroth and Jill Jarecki to publish research that highlights the effects of COVID-19 on spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) care and clinical trial conduct, and the perceived effectiveness of telemedicine in the SMA community.

In “Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on SMA Screening and Care: Physician and Community Insights,” the authors provide research insights from an evaluation as a part of efforts to reduce diagnostic delays and enhance clinical trials. Insights can help stakeholders increase preparedness for future disruptive events.

In “Telemedicine Use, Comfort, and Perceived Effectiveness in the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Community,” the authors provide insights from patient perspectives related to the use of telemedicine in the SMA community. The results provide insight into patient experiences with telemedicine and inform approaches to its use by health care professionals and clinical trial sponsors.
