Tom Froehle Discusses Use of Alternative Fee Arrangements With Indianapolis Business Journal
In the article, “Is the billable hour past its time?” chair emeritus and partner Tom Froehle recently spoke with the Indianapolis Business Journal about the growing use of alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) in law practices across Indiana and the country. The publication reported that AFAs, such as flat rate charges, are being increasingly used by legal practices in lieu of billable hours.
Froehle noted that some of the firm’s practices have been using contingent fees or fixed fees for decades when dealing with certain matters, but within the last 15-20 years clients have become more interested in a wider variety of AFAs.
“We now have a whole team of people who are focused on helping us work with clients to develop pricing strategies and structures that are different from just the billable hour,” Froehle said. “It’s really all about trying to be responsive to clients.”
