Elliot Vice Comments on Harris’ Plan to Boost Interstate Telehealth for Inside Health Policy
Faegre Drinker Consulting Director Elliot Vice provided insights to Inside Health Policy on vice president Kamala Harris’ proposal to reduce barriers to occupational licensing across state lines and increase access to virtual care.
The publication reported that Harris’ plan would reduce licensure burdens by supporting state-grants to cut unnecessary barriers to get licensed, expand multistate licensing agreements and kickstart implementation of universal licensing recognition. Vice said the net result of the proposed policy would be a positive for telehealth providers.
"It signals that Harris is committed to continuing to elevate the issue of license portability in her potential administration," Vice noted. "I'm encouraged that health care providers are named specifically, which I think could signal that a Harris Administration would continue to support federal funding to support license portability efforts that are currently being developed."
Vice said that policy-makers on both sides of the aisle have been committed to supporting license portability efforts, and that advocates should remain optimistic.
