John Przypyszny Discusses Higher-Ed Accreditation Security With The Chronicle

In the article, “The Antitrust Attack,” The Chronicle spoke to education partner John Przypyszny about college accreditors facing scrutiny from Congress and courts. 

The article notes that The National Association of College and University identifies accreditation as “collective action by rivals who have the power to exclude a school,” and that accreditors have faced antitrust lawsuits on occasion, though they have generally failed.

While accreditors may not face serious antitrust suits, Przypyszny noted they may have a hard time explaining their role to dubious lawmakers. “It’s a no-win situation,” Przypyszny said. “If you are rigorous, you’re called a cartel. If you lower the bar, you’re accused of not protecting consumers.”
