Overview
Abdullah Azkalany represents clients in complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts and in arbitrations nationwide. Abdullah protects clients’ interests in a broad range of significant, contentious commercial disputes, including class actions and multidistrict litigations, involving antitrust, fraud, conspiracy, tortious interference, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of complex agreements, negligence and strict liability. Abdullah enjoys achieving victories for clients ranging from Fortune 50 companies to individuals based in the United States and abroad.
Abdullah maintains an active pro bono practice, partnering with national and local human rights organizations to represent refugees and asylum seekers hailing from the most destitute regions of the world. Abdullah is also a member of the firm’s associates’ committee and works with the firm’s executive partners to develop and enhance the associate model across all of the firm’s offices and practice groups.
Recent and ongoing matters include:
- Representation of a global beef producer in class action multidistrict litigation brought by nine separate classes of upstream and downstream plaintiffs and additional opt-out plaintiffs, alleging an antitrust conspiracy to manipulate the market for beef and cattle, pursuant to the Sherman Act, the Commodity Exchange Act, the Packers and Stockyards Act, and state antitrust laws, seeking over $30 billion in damages.
- Representation of a global food producer in arbitration against a global warehousing, distribution and logistics company for claims of breach of contract, negligence, gross negligence and conversion, arising out of losses related to a data breach and separate operational failures.
- Representation of a global food producer in litigation in Washington, D.C., against claims of intentional misrepresentations concerning the national food supply during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking statutory damages and injunctive relief.
- Representation of a nationwide managed care organization in affirmative litigation in federal court against a medical billing services provider and numerous co-conspirators alleging fraud, conspiracy, tortious interference, breach of contract, and statutory and equitable claims seeking in excess of $100 million.
- Representation of a consortium of investors and their holding company and operating subsidiary in the Delaware Court of Chancery against sellers of the operating company alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breaches of merger and credit agreements seeking in excess of $300 million.
- Representation of a global manufacturing company and a nationwide distributor against claims of negligence and strict liability alleging products manufactured and distributed by the firm’s clients caused one of the largest bacterial outbreaks of its kind in recent history.
- Representation of a global manufacturing company in negligence and premises liability lawsuits arising out of serious and fatal injuries in state and federal courts nationwide.
