Overview
Emily Burgess counsels clients in white collar and complex commercial disputes. She has experience representing individuals in regulatory investigations conducted by the Securities Exchange Commission, U.S. Department of Justice, and state law enforcement agencies, and has been a member of litigation teams that tried cases to verdict in both state and federal courts. Emily’s clients are in a variety of industries, including finance and health care.
Commercial Litigation Experience
- Successfully negotiated the resolution of a contract dispute involving the former chief executive officer and president of a publicly traded energy company.
- Successfully negotiated the resolution of a commercial contract dispute involving an internet marketing company.
- Successfully negotiated the resolution of an employment dispute involving an employee of a financial trading and risk management platform.
White Collar Defense Experience
- Represented an accounting executive in the resolution of a civil securities fraud action, including dismissal of certain allegations.
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a former chief operating officer stemming from the $64 million acquisition of an avionics company.
- Assisted in negotiating the resolution of a criminal securities fraud against a high-level executive of an investment company.
Personal Interests
In her free time, Emily enjoys reading and writing fiction and poetry, singing, and painting abstract art. She also enjoys attending plays and musicals.
