Overview

Jeff Merritt advises clients involved in the financial services industry with litigation and complex business disputes. He focuses on financial litigation and corporate trust disputes, representing trustees, master services, securities administrators and other financial institutions.

Representative Experience

  • Represented a Peruvian cement company in obtaining $345 million in financing for the acquisition of a cement plant in Tehachapi, California.
  • Represented a U.S. drilling and mining company in amending senior and subordinated loan documents for the acquisition of a Swedish company that produces mining instruments.
  • Represented an online bank as lender in a $55 million secured revolving loan facility.
  • Assisted with numerous debtor Chapter 11 filings, and represented creditors in numerous Chapter 11 cases.

Prior Experience

Jeff joined Faegre Drinker from an Am Law 100 firm where he was a finance and restructuring associate. While in law school, Jeff served as an extern for the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, the Security and Exchange Commission’s bankruptcy and reorganization team, and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jeffery Cavender. Prior to law school, Jeff worked as a substance abuse counselor with adolescent, young adult and low-income populations.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Jeff spends most of his time wrangling his two small children into brushing their teeth and going to bed. Otherwise, he can be found playing ultimate frisbee, at the local CrossFit gym, running, or watching football.
