Melissa G. Michie

Property Tax Attorney

Overview

Melissa Michie has a unique, hybrid role combining coordination of appeals for the property tax team and as an Indiana-licensed attorney focused on real-property tax assessments. Melissa documents and streamlines the team’s appeal processes and ensures awareness and adherence to appeal-related deadlines. She also assists the team in reviewing property tax assessments, abatements and exemptions; analyzing valuations; and negotiating settlements with county assessors, county and state boards, and the state tax court.

Prior Experience

During and after law school, Melissa worked with her father at Tax Consultants, Inc., reviewing and appealing Indiana property tax assessments. Before law school, Melissa worked almost 20 years at General Electric, honing her skills and passion for relationship development, documentation and process improvement. During her tenure at GE, she earned a Six Sigma Black Belt certification and completed her MBA.

Personal Interests

In her free time, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, son, cats (Tobie, Luckie and Buckie) and her golden retriever, Nellie. To escape the chaos of life, she enjoys reading fictional period, suspense and comedic novels, and solving logic problems.
