Overview

Geoffrey Sawyer is an experienced attorney known for advising states and large corporations on complying with unclaimed property or state escheat laws. Prior to joining the firm, Geoff served as deputy chief of staff to Delaware Governor Jack Markell, where he directed economic development efforts and oversaw the state’s collective bargaining.

Unclaimed Property

Geoff leads the firm’s representation of the State of Delaware’s Voluntary Disclosure Agreement (VDA) program for unclaimed property compliance, which currently has over 1200 enrolled companies. Recently the States of Missouri and North Dakota engaged Geoff and his team to get companies into voluntary compliance with those states’ unclaimed property laws.

In addition, Geoff has extensive experience representing clients in connection with multistate unclaimed property audits and has filed Section 1577 Interest Assessment Appeals in the State of California.

He also counsels clients regarding the effect of state unclaimed property laws in mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations and internal compliance reviews.

Personal Interests

Geoff is a recreational runner, golfer and avid Philadelphia sports fan.
