Leading Private Fund Trio Joins Faegre Drinker: Dee Anne Sjögren, Mark Weakley, and Jeremy Kollitz

Faegre Drinker announced today that Dee Anne Sjögren and Mark Weakley and have joined the firm as partners and Jeremy Kollitz, CFA, as an associate in the investment management practice. They come to the firm from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.

Sjögren and Weakley are the second and third partners to join the firm’s investment management group in 2022, following Tiffany Reeves, who joined in Minneapolis in May.

Sjögren and Weakley have decades of experience providing counsel to venture capital, private equity, private credit, private real estate and hedge funds in and outside of the United States. They provide pre-formation structuring and organizational planning and drafting of documents, such as offering materials, limited partnership or limited liability company agreements, subscription documents and general partner and investment manager documents.

Sjögren, located in the Midwest, will provide advice to advisers and independent trustees of registered and private funds on fund management, as well as regulatory and compliance issues arising under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940 and SEC Regulation D under the Securities Act of 1933.

Weakley, based in the firm’s Boulder, Colorado, office, works with funds in all major asset categories. He will offer bespoke counseling on fund operational matters that may involve investment advisor regulatory compliance, negotiations with key investors, investment manager compensation, fund governance and side letter negotiations.

Kollitz leverages his prior experience with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a global investment business to advise clients on regulations impacting private fund managers. He often assists larger private fund advisers with SEC registration and compliance issues arising under the Investment Advisers Act.

Sjögren earned her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctor from Tulane Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. Weakley earned his bachelor’s degree from Whitworth University, summa cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. Kollitz earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California — Los Angeles and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami Law School.
