Careers in Patent Law for STEM Students

Intellectual property patent agent Mario Gaviria attended a handful of university events to discuss careers in patent law for STEM students. He spoke on a webinar for The Occidental College Department of Chemistry and the Ramsen Bird Lecture Fund as well as a webinar for York University’s department of chemistry at its Graduate Student Association 2024-2025 seminar series and visited Ann Arbor, Michigan to speak to the University of Michigan’s department of chemistry. 

Gaviria completed his dissertation on the total synthesis of complex natural products at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and has experience in all areas of chemistry — particularly organic, pharmaceutical and polymer chemistry. He discussed his career helping clients secure intellectual property protection for innovative chemical technologies and working with patent attorneys to conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, patent infringement and validity investigations, and patent landscapes.
