Construction M&A: Are We Seeing a Revival?

Construction News

Corporate attorneys Dan Coppel and Sinead Cuthill co-authored an article titled “Construction M&A: Are We Seeing a Revival?” for Construction News, where they provided an overview of recent trends in the United Kingdom mergers and acquisitions market.

The authors note that, while the number of M&A deals fell 10.6% last year without recovering, several macro factors like inflation and interest rates falling indicate possible upward trends. Combined with growing credit for companies and regulatory efforts like the Building Safety Act have boosted the construction industry’s supply chains, a good sign for firms looking to capitalize on potential new M&A clients.

“For all market participants, opportunities are emerging, and the pace of enquiries is quickening,” the authors note. “The increasingly robust regulatory environment, together with the need to ensure that once a commercial deal is struck, execution risk is minimized and deals get papered quickly, all combine to mean that most construction M&A lawyers are now busy again with solid pipelines through to year end. A more stable macro environment will undoubtedly help maintain that, but as to whether or not the market will recover to its pandemic-era highs, there’s no crystal ball.”
