The Implications of 2024's AI Rules and Regulations for Patent Attorneys

Intellectual property partners Christina Huang and John Smith and patent agent Devin Stein authored an article for Law360 titled, “The Implications Of 2024's AI Rules And Regs For Patent Attys” to discuss the changes to ethics rules and regulations related to artificial intelligence.

The authors cover the USPTO’s guidance on the subject matter eligibility of AI-assisted inventions from July, as well as the USPTO’s communications throughout the year about the inventorship guidance for AI-assisted inventions and guidance on use of AI-based tools in practice before the USPTO.

In the article, the coauthors also discuss Formal Opinion 512 on generative AI tools and state laws and regulations related to AI.
