Alex Harrell

Alex counsels employers on workplace-related issues, with a particular emphasis on post-employment restrictive covenants and the protection of trade secrets and proprietary information. Alex has served on the Trade Secrets Committee of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Texas and has authored several articles on developments in the law surrounding non-compete agreements and trade secrets.

Representative Matters

Recently, Alex:

• Successfully defended on appeal a summary judgment for an insurer in a coverage dispute involving millions of dollars in environmental remediation costs sought under a premises environmental policy.
• Obtained a summary affirmance from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals of a summary judgment for an insurance carrier in a case brought under the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
• Obtained multiple summary judgments for insurers and is defending on appeal statutory limitations on awards (including with regard to attorneys’ fees) for weather-related insurance coverage disputes.  These cases involve matters of first impression under a new Texas statute.
• Successfully persuaded a federal district court to reverse its earlier decision and grant summary judgment in favor of an insurer in a property damage dispute.
• As lead trial counsel, obtained defense verdict for a regional galvanizing company and its principal officer in a misappropriation of trade secrets case.
