Overview
Matt Lechner is a litigation associate in the D.C. office representing clients in complex commercial litigation with a focus on antitrust and competition-related disputes. Matt participates in all aspects of litigation, and his experience ranges from motions practice and discovery to trial preparation.
Antitrust
Matt has significant experience defending monopolization and restraint-of-trade claims brought under the Sherman Act, Cartwright Act and various state laws:
- Counsel for national real estate brokerage company and related affiliates in multidistrict litigation brought by residential home sellers asserting price-fixing claims based on allegedly anticompetitive broker commission offers by seller listing agents pursuant to the National Association of Realtors’ rules and policies. Obtained global settlement agreement prior to trial.
- Counsel for pharmaceutical company in class action alleging that noncompete clauses in collaboration agreements for the development and manufacture of certain HIV medications are anticompetitive. Claims related to three of the four HIV medications at issue were dismissed on summary judgment.
- Counsel for seller of hospital system in class actions brought by direct and indirect purchasers in federal and state courts alleging monopolization and restraint of trade.
- Counsel for former senior executive of publicly traded generic pharmaceutical company in civil enforcement action brought by 49 state attorneys general relating to alleged price-fixing.
Commercial Disputes
Beyond his antitrust and competition practice, Matt has significant experience defending a range of claims in civil litigation, including breach of contract, RICO and trade secret claims:
- Counsel for former CEO of a multinational can and bottle manufacturer in civil RICO action involving alleged fraud, self-dealing and money laundering.
- Counsel for lead generation business in complex breach of contract and trade secrets theft case relating to solicitation and processing of Paycheck Protection Program loans.
- Counsel for former partner of real estate development company in court-ordered appraisal of company to determine fair value of partner’s share.
Prior Experience
Before joining Faegre Drinker, Matt clerked for the Hon. David R. Strawbridge (M.J.) (Ret.) of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania during the 2018-19 term. Matt worked in Faegre Drinker’s Philadelphia offices before transferring to the D.C. office.
Personal Interests
In the winter, Matt enjoys skiing in his former hometown of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and in the warmer months enjoys training for his next triathlon or marathon.
