Overview

Matt Levy is a practical and creative problem solver. He acts as outside general counsel to U.S. and foreign clients on complex cross-border transactions, including inbound and outbound investments, international commercial agreements, strategic transactions, international trade and compliance matters.

Matt’s experience living in Asia gives him insight into the different cultural considerations, legal systems and business practices that affect cross-border projects. He is an executive committee member of Faegre Drinker’s firm-wide international team and maintains a strong network of trusted global contacts. Matt has advised on transactions and other corporate and regulatory matters in more than 50 countries. He represents clients in a broad range of industries, including advanced manufacturing, food and agribusiness, medical device, alternative energy and automotive.

International Transactions

Matt advises public and private companies on buy- and sell-side M&A transactions, cross-border agreements, international joint ventures, and other commercial arrangements, including:

  • Share and asset acquisitions
  • Establishing subsidiaries and representative offices
  • Forming joint ventures
  • Negotiating distribution, sales representative, services and licensing agreements
  • Foreign direct investment
  • Global restructuring
  • Corporate governance

Antitrust

Matt assists clients with filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act in connection with large M&A transactions. He also coordinates premerger notification filings and other regulatory approvals in non-U.S. jurisdictions.

International Trade

Matt advises on compliance with U.S. trade regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the sanctions programs administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Personal Interests

Matt is the proud father of three active and curious children. When not parenting, he enjoys travel, skiing, golf and cooking.
